Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is a phrase most people were unaware of 18 months ago. But today, it has become a major buzz word on the minds of many business owners. Unfortunately, very few people, including some search engine optimization professionals, truly understand what it means or how it should be done. One thing it isn’t is a procedure your local mechanic should perform on your carburetor. But if you are a business owner (including local mechanics), search engine optimization is something you should be taking advantage of (And for all you mechanics…I’m serious!).

According to Wikipedia, search engine optimization is simply “the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines.” In our opinion, it is the most effective, efficient form of marketing available. You can drive more business for less investment than with any other type of marketing. And unlike almost every other type of marketing, you can actually measure its effectiveness.

And before you assume that search engine optimization is just for technology companies, bigger companies or companies selling products through their website, let me be the first to tell you that people are searching for what you’re selling in the search engines…right now. How do I know this? Because after years in the search engine optimization industry, I’ve realize that people are searching for EVERYTHING in the search engines.

Consumer products? Yes. Industrial supplies? Yes. Financial services? Industrial services? Wholesale distributors? Yes, yes, and yes. Even those of you who are selling services to a limited geographic area, like law firms, dry cleaners and even auto mechanics would be shocked at how many people are searching for, “(insert your town name) law firm”…or dry cleaners, or auto mechanic. And since very, very few businesses have figured out how to truly take advantage of search engine optimization, those who are smart enough to invest now will have a huge competitive advantage.
